The museum is a popular excursion spot for Bodø’s population. It is an excellent area for walks, picnics and games and there are superb views of the sea and mountains.

There are 14 buildings from various places in Salten in the museum grounds. Much of the Nordland Museum’s boat collection, including “Anna Karoline” the last authentic Nordland sloop (“jekt”) ,is stored in the boathouses at Bodøsjøen.
